Recycled Sweater Monster

I stumbled across a whole slew of websites devoted to the craft of turning old wool sweaters into stuffed toys, hats and bags. I thought I would give it a try myself and purchased a striped wool Gap sweater from the goodwill. I washed it in hot water and dried it in high heat. It shrunk and became felt-like.

Jack drew a picture of a monster for me and I tried to translate it into the 3-D world. We didn’t do too bad of a job for our first time. We have some left over sweater, so I think we’ll try another. Although, Jack’s latest monster has a decidedly dinosaur look, so I might need to go find a green sweater instead.

Mixed Media

Added some pics to the mixed media page.

Applied to be in the Rockford College Art on the Lawn art show in June.

Also sent an email to Olbrich Botanical Gardens to see if I would be able to have a show there in 2010. Spring would be nice. It is a very good garden, check it out if you’re ever in the Madison area.

New Painting Ideas

I have been collaging alot of late in an effort to come up with some new painting ideas. While I don’t like scrapbooking, I do love the colors and patterns that the papers come in. I also like cutting and pasting, must be something I didn’t get enough of in Kindergarten.

Today while Jack and I were hanging out at the studio, making a mess, and giving John a sick-time break, I decided the next couple paintings need to be in an orange, yellow, pink palate. Maybe the coming of spring is driving me in that direction. But also, I haven’t fully explored those colors in my work yet. I think I need to get away from blue, red and green for awhile.

And I came up with two (hopefully good) ideas for paintings finally. I always title my ideas before I start the painting, because I have a pretty good idea in my head what they will look like already. So the next two paintings should be Bird Ribbon and Potted Butterfly Tree. And tah-dah I am excited again.
