The clouds have been fabulous the past few days. So tonight I used them for my photo of the day.

This is just a picture of some fancy grass we have in the backyard. It was a last minute shot since I spent the rest of the day hanging out with the family.

red freds 274/365

red freds 274/365, originally uploaded by laurasjoquist.

When I was little my cousin called these bugs Red Freds. We kept the adult bugs as pets by tying thread around their necks and paper clipping them to a milkweed plant. I’m not sure what the real name for these bugs is, or if they are beneficial or a nuisance to the gardener. But I was pleasantly surprised to see them busting out all over my milkweed. I didn’t get any monarchs this year, so at least something is making use of my wildflower garden.

sunflower seed bread 272/365

sunflower seed bread 272/365, originally uploaded by laurasjoquist.

Jack is back in school, so that means I’m back in the kitchen being a good, barefoot wife. In addition to a big batch of granola (with cereal in it this time), I canned some cucumber relish and baked this loaf of sunflower seed bread per John’s request. Next week? Guinness bread!

I have wanted a rain chain since my first visit to the Anderson Japanese Garden here in Rockford. Now that we have the pergola on the deck, it seemed like a perfect reason to buy one. Mine isn’t attached to a gutter, so it serves no real purpose. But I still like it.

One, two, skip a few…
Yesterday was Jack’s last day of summer vacation. It was hard to decide what we wanted to do, but finally he chose pizza and the Discovery Center.

turtle lake 268/365

turtle lake 268/365, originally uploaded by laurasjoquist.

Before we started back home, my Sis offered us a ride on the boat on Turtle Lake. Jack loves his cousin Nik, so I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to let him hang out on the lake with Nik for a few more hours. Besides, it’s not really summer in Minnesota until you’ve jumped off the side of boat into a weedy lake and splashed around a bit.

Willard Munger Trail 267/365

Willard Munger Trail 267/365, originally uploaded by laurasjoquist.

On the second day of our vacation, John and I took our bikes out on the Willard Munger Trail. We biked on the section from Hinckley to Moose Lake and back with a stop in Moose Lake for lunch and coffee to warm up. It was an incredible 64 mile ride.

Franconia Sculpture Park 266/365

Franconia Sculpture Park 266/365, originally uploaded by laurasjoquist.

I can’t take any credit for awesomeness in this picture. It is obviously someone else’s work that makes the shot. John and I spent a few days alone being tourist in Minnesota while my mom watched the boys and dog. We stopped at the Franconia Sculpture Park, Near Taylor’s Falls, MN to check out all the cool sculpture.

mom’s garden 265/365

mom’s garden 265/365, originally uploaded by laurasjoquist.

We were on the road for picture number 265(only 100 left to go), up in Minnesota to visit the family and do some biking. My mom’s garden is always an inspiration for me to get out in my own yard and make life beautiful.
