pork roast

pork roast 29/365-2, originally uploaded by laurasjoquist.

Today for dinner I made a pork roast in beer. The beer was home brewed-a little bitter for me, but delicious on a roast done in the oven for 3 hours. The cranberry sauce was home canned too, so I’m feeling rather special right now.

the museum rocks

Our Milwaukee Public Museum membership expires tomorrow. Bummer. Jack and I went up for one last look around as I don’t think I’ll be renewing it again for a while. It is probably the best museum we have ever been too and I highly recommend it to anyone living in or visiting the Milwaukee area.

Jack’s Milwaukee Public Museum Top Five list:
1. The Giant Whale Skeleton gets decorated for Christmas complete with Santa hat.
2. Butterflies will land on you in the butterfly garden, just be patient.
3. You can find something new every time you visit the European Village houses.
4. Buffalo stampede!!!!!!
5. The Foo Dogs by the Buddha Shrine have a surprise in their mouths if you’re not afraid to reach in and find it.

John went back to work today, but I still have Jack for the rest of the week. We took the neighbor girls sledding.

fortunes 26/365, originally uploaded by laurasjoquist.

After a week of tacos (yum!) and a long day of airport food (yuck) we celebrated our first dinner back home with tofu lettuce soup, spring rolls and fortune cookies. Jack likes to save what he feels are particularly good fortunes on the fridge.

This is my favorite picture of the trip. That’s really all I have to say about it.

pancakes 10/365, originally uploaded by laurasjoquist.

We are pretty much snowed in today. Not that I ever really need a reason to make chocolate chip pancakes.

big sandwich

big sandwich 7/365-2, originally uploaded by laurasjoquist.

There wasn’t anything worth taking a photo of at the opening reception for the Banking On Art show this evening. On the way home we stopped for dinner at the Brooklyn Deli in Roscoe where Jack scored this mega sandwich. He then proceeded to eat while providing Man Vs. Food like commentary on how good it was. Especially the bacon

happy dog

happy dog 5/365-2, originally uploaded by laurasjoquist.

When it’s cold outside Jack, Sarah Dog and I like to cuddle up on the couch and watch bad action movies like Rush Hour 2. When Sarah is feeling particularly cuddled her mouth hangs open and she starts to snore.

I took this with the new point and shoot we bought for the trip to Mexico. In addition to being water proof and drop proof(that came in handy already) it can take wicked macro shots from 1 cm away. Let me just say that again because it sounds so freakin’ awesome. 1 cm away. So like any serious photographer, I used it to take pics of my dog’s schnoz.

katie’s cup show

katie’s cup show 2/365-2, originally uploaded by laurasjoquist.

I manned the Art Guild table at the Katie’s Cup arts and crafts show today. I made absolutely no sales of my stuff or anyone else’s, but I did manage to get a little networking done. If some one had told me twenty years ago that artists have to network, I probably would have picked a different major.

I took this with the new point and shoot John bought for our upcoming Christmas trip to Mexico. It’s a pretty cool little camera that can go underwater and or be dropped from about 4 feet without breaking. We really, really need this kind of camera as we have managed to go through about 4 point and shoots in the last 8 years.

turtle cookies

turtle cookies 1/365-2, originally uploaded by laurasjoquist.

What better way to start my second year of 365 days of photos than to arbitrarily pick 12-2-10 because I made some really great cookies today.

I vacillated between doing another year or not. I finally decided I’d better continue since photo of the day requires at least a tiny little bit of creative thought each day. And I need that, otherwise I might end up on the couch all day watching reruns of The Office and talking to the dog. Because man is it cold out there.
