Another horticultural first for me this summer is a little pot of moss by the front door.

fantastic fudgewiches

I think this is Cookie Book cookie number 8 the Fantastic Fudgewich. Which was fantastic but extremely time consuming. Unfortunately they are Jack’s new favorite, so I’ll probably be making them again. Unless I can distract him with popsicles.

present for Optimus

present for Optimus 24/365, originally uploaded by laurasjoquist.

I finished this journal today for Optimus for his birthday. I recently decided that I was going to give more hand made items as gifts. Mostly because I have no job, but also because I think getting something made by another human is cool. Plus, I can be cute and creative. See, it says “tell me something clever and wise” and there are a fox and an owl on it. Get it? Sorry if this spoiled the surprise Steffanie. I need to add one more coat of glue and then it will be on the way up to Minneapolis.

calla lily

calla lily 23/365, originally uploaded by laurasjoquist.

I went outside of my horticultural comfort zone this year and planted a pot of calla lilies next to the front door where I do get a little shade. Since they claim to be only annuals, it won’t be too big of a loss if I kill them. I’m just wondering if I can keep them over the winter. Maybe inside? Any calla lily experts out there have a suggestion?

frogs 22/365, originally uploaded by laurasjoquist.

It rained today, a nice gentle rain all day long, so I didn’t go out. John’s out of town for a few days, so I didn’t bake or prepare a fabulous meal. On a day like this, you get a photo of my bookshelf with frogs ( I don’t remember where they came from) and books (I haven’t read in a really long time) and a photo of my mom when she was little. Enjoy judging my reading choices!

The last few days have been pretty humid around here. This can make watching hockey a little difficult.

this dog wants a rabbit

this dog wants a rabbit 13/365, originally uploaded by laurasjoquist.

The rabbits have started frolicking, eating and then taking a nap right in front of the window. I think they are purposely torturing my dog.

I took this picture of lingering raindrops at Klehm Arboretum in Rockford while I was waiting for my shopping companions to show up for the plant sale.

dork dog in a flower bed

dork dog in a flower bed 10/365, originally uploaded by laurasjoquist.

Today I planted flowers in the front garden bed. I tried to get some pictures of the dog with the new flowers, but she’s kind of a dork. So here she is making faces by the Foxglove. I also put in Pasque Plant, Prairie Smoke, Blue Asters, Coreopsis, Coneflower and Bee Balm. Tomorrow I cover the black stuff.
